Train trip Dunedin to Palmerston and back

Today Dave took the train from Dunedin to Palmerston (a 45 minute drive north of Dunedin, 41 miles or 66 km on the route the train takes). The train goes along the coast, unlike the highway, so there are lots of views that you can't get from a car. There are basically no passenger trains on the South Island of New Zealand, just a few tourist trains like this one which goes only occasionally. It was a beautiful day. Here are photos from the trip. Enjoy an arm-chair train ride through some beautiful country!

Routeburn-Greenstone Track, Day 5

Dave rolled his left ankle several times on the trip, and by the fifth day, every step hurt. On that last day, he had to walk 20 km with each step hurting, so he didn't take a lot of pictures. Now, four days later, he's still icing it and keeping it elevated as much as he can.

Routeburn-Greenstone Track, Day 4

Day 4 was mostly along the Greenstone River. Dave got to fish at the end of the day. He caught one fish, saw a lot of others, and said the fish were huge. Yes, those are cows in the first picture.

Routeburn-Greenstone Track, day 3

Okay, I give up. I can't seem to limit the photos of each day to only ten. I've picked 14 photos from day 3.
