Train trip Dunedin to Palmerston and back

Today Dave took the train from Dunedin to Palmerston (a 45 minute drive north of Dunedin, 41 miles or 66 km on the route the train takes). The train goes along the coast, unlike the highway, so there are lots of views that you can't get from a car. There are basically no passenger trains on the South Island of New Zealand, just a few tourist trains like this one which goes only occasionally. It was a beautiful day.
